4. PINE TREE
Pinheiro
Group 5 (12-14 year olds)
Welcome to Cycle 4!
Congratulations for the progress you are helping your students achieve. In the following cycle, students should become engaged with the class in an increasingly active and participative manner. This is why some of the proposed activities in Cycle 4 will require a more dearing involvement from the kids.
THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS CYCLE ARE:
-
Consolidate understanding of class structure.
-
Interact with the concepts of past, present, and future.
-
Speak spontaneously and creatively experiment with the target language.
When you see that there is progress in these areas, you can move on to the next cycle. Check the rubric that will help you know if the group is ready to move forward!
WE SUGGEST YOU CHECK THE EVIDENCES WITH WHICH YOU WILL OBSERVE IF YOUR STUDENTS HAVE ACHIEVED THESE OBJECTIVES
CLASS PLAN
To ask your students about the video experiences (jornadas), ask them how they did them, if they are liking them so far, which were their favorites, etc.
Remember
1. STARTING SONG
As always, the Vivadí Class will begin with the Starting Song. Considering one of the main objectives of this cycle, we propose a small activity to start the class and generate spontaneous group responses while the children get ready for Vivadí.
During this cycle, you will play the starting song without giving any indications to the children. In other words, you will stay still and wait to see their reaction to the introduction of the song without giving instructions. Wait for a few seconds and see if they begin to arrange the classroom, or if they take their shoes off, or somehow show that they are ready to start with the class.
Lyrics
If your friends are in the classroom, say hello.
If you see your teacher smiling, show your teeth
If you want to show your feelings, give a hug
If you feel like being silly, make some noise
If you want to get together, make some room
Let your heart feel so much better, make some room
Let’s get ready for Vivadi
Let’s have some fun and play with english in our world
Let’s get ready for Vivadi
We are all in this together
We’ll do it you and me
We’ll be a big great family
If you notice that the kids haven’t reacted to the song, you should intervene by giving the usual instructions of the beginning of the class. Nevertheless, it is very important that you try this exercise every class.
2. STORYTELLING
TEEN TITANS – GOING TO THE FUTURE
PRE READING
Before watching the video, your students should answer the following questions:
-
Do you like superhero comics?
-
Do you prefer DC or Marvel?
-
What is your favorite superhero and what is his/her super power?
-
Imagine what could have happened in the comic books if superheroes didn't exist. How would the stories change?

-
Which is the best universe?
-
Would you be a member of the Justice League or an Avenger?
-

-
Which are the best comic-books and superhero movies? Pick a side!
Divide students into two groups: DC supporters and Marvel supporters.
Ask students to prepare arguments to defend their preference and legitimize the favoritism of their choice.
Each argument with a relevant answer is worth 10 points. The group that has no argument to debate the opposing group loses the game.

ACTIVITY
The Friendship Game
Yes, we can make friends in the virtual world, but it's different from a friendship offline. Do you agree? You can discuss it with the kids. Friends CAN be a great part of our lives. When we get together with them, it is an opportunity to share and connect, to talk about feelings, our lives, or even problems and also try and help each other! This is a game designed to get the very best out of our friendships. The more honestly and clearly we answer, the faster we advance around the game. The winner is the person who has best demonstrated that bedrock of true friendship: the capacity for sincere, kindly self-disclosure. The game is guaranteed to bring out new facets of our friends and will allow for a series of fascinating moments of revelation and mutual discovery.
Divide students into pairs, preferably among students who are not so close. Then they should ask their colleagues simple questions to get to know them better. You could suggest that students switch pairs on a rotating basis.

4. CRAFT TIME
5. BRAIN BREAKS
Catch Me If You Can
Divide the class into two groups and then ask them to face one another in two lines. The groups have approximately one minute to look at the opposing team, taking in all details about the individuals in the other group. The two lines turn and face away from the center. Each group has a minute to change things (total of changes determined by the facilitator) about their appearance (Ex.: change a watch to a different wrist, unbutton a button, etc.) The changes must be discrete but visible. The players again turn in to face each other to discover the physical changes that have been made. The team who discovers the most wins.
Are you more like…?
Ask the students to stand in the middle of the room, and then have them move to either side to indicate their choice (they must pick one).

SING ALONG
6. HARMONY
7. ENDING SONG
Finally, as always, you will sing our well-known Ending Song.
Make sure everyone sings it out loud together. Encourage, especially those kids that don't participate much in class, to see if they can repeat the song phonetically.
Lyrics
If you enjoyed our time together, sing along
If you can’t wait for next class, high five!
To get ready for what follows, tidy up
See you next time dear teacher, good bye!
It’s not goodbye with Vivadi
The things I learnt today will always stay in me
It’s not goodbye with Vivadi
We are all in this together
We’ll do it you and me
We’ll be a big great family
Do not forget to put the class back in order while you sing.
